Ask your child what he/she learned this week in our continued study of oviparous animals.

Our spelling words for next week will be: are, that, of and do!

Next week's bead goal is saying the Pledge of Allegiance from memory.  This should be an easy one as we have been practicing all year.  If your child needs a challenge, try singing the Star Spangled Banner!

Happy Weekend - a little early!

We are becoming kindergarten experts on oviparous animals this week and next.  Ask your kindergartener to explain to you what makes an animal oviparous!!  Remember, there is no school tomorrow, April 13, due to district music festival.

Spelling words for next week are: see, look, they and you.
Next week's bead goal is properly using the greater than and less than symbols (< and >).  We've been practicing this at school.  Good luck!

Look in your child's Friday Folder for the last book order of the year!  Please return your order by Friday, April 20th.  Thank you!

Literacy Day!

We've continued our study of healthy foods this week and even made homeade bread!  Next week we will begin a two week study of oviparous animals.

Today is Literacy Day at Peterson school!  Your child traveled to many different classrooms to participate in a variety of activities celebrating literacy. Check their backpacks for special books that they brought home to keep!  Ask them to tell you all about it.

Next week's bead goal is telling time to the hour and the half hour with both analogue and digital clocks!  Need a challenge?  Try time to the quarter hour!

Mr. A. Found A Pot of Gold!

Happy St. Patty's Day a little early!
Our lucky principal, Mr. A., found a pot of gold on the playground!
We have some thoughts about what he could do with his treasure...
(as always, click any image to enlarge)

We are looking forward to beginning our two-week study of healthy foods!

Next week's spelling words are; to, a, have and is

Next week's brain bead is knowing the difference between a leter, a word, and a sentence.  Practice by giving your child two index cards and having them isolate a single letter, a word and a sentence on a page in a book. This is a little tricky, but important!

If you have not done so already, please return your child's enrollment form for next year, assessment portfolio and report card envelope as soon as possible.  Most have been returned, we are waiting on just a few.  Thanks!

Report Card Day Coming Up!

Report cards will be coming home Monday!  Please look for the report card in the PORTFOLIO FOLDER!  Refer to the portfolio to see what each grade means and see the growth your child has made since last trimester.  Please help us by doing the following:

Sign and return the report card envelope so we know you have received the report card
(the report card itself is yours to keep).
The yellow portfolio folder and the assessment packet MUST BE RETURNED (along with the report card envelope)! This is extremely important since we will use the packet to record 3rd trimester assessment information.  (This packet will be yours to keep at the END of the year.)
Thank you for promptly returning these items on Monday, March 19th!

You will also notice a "bead goal report" in your child's portfolio.  Please take it out, review it and keep it for future reference.  You may want to look ahead if your child is begging for a challenge.  Remember, if your child knows a goal they can be re-tested anytime!  Just have him/her let us know they are ready to be tested.

Next week's bead goal is counting by 2s to 20.  Watch out for those tricky teens!

Also included with the report card is an enrollment form for next  year.  Please return it ASAP to reserve a spot for your child at Peterson School next year!

Next week we will begin spelling tests!  Students will be taking "tests" every Thursday.  This is an introduction to spelling tests so don't stress!  Refer to the newsletter for more details.
Spelling words for next week:  I, am, little, to
We are looking forward to a field trip to Albertson's grocery store near the end of this month during our study of healthy foods. Look for a permission slip that needs to be signed for this field trip in today's Friday Folder.

Happy weekend!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We had great fun celebrating all of the many Dr. Seuss classics this week!  The Cat in the Hat inspired our journaling today! Check out the amazing and fun Seussville website.  It has fun games, videos, activities and more.   The Seussville link is also on the "linkerdoodle" list to your right.

Next week's bead goal is rhyming!
We will give your child a word and have him or her give a rhyming word. Practice this weekend!
